Hey hey!
Well it's been quite a long time since I updated the blog and I've got a few juicy nuggets of information for you to chew on!
Firstly, and most importantly, we have been invited to headline a brand new unsigned bands event at the one and only Ritz in Manchester, called 'Break Thru'. (like you haven't already heard)
This is a great honour for us as it is truly, hand on heart, the best venue in Manchester. The list of bands that headlined shows there in the past is an impressive thinng in itself, but the best thing for me is the theatre like set up which delivers great acoustics and the sprung dance floor! It adds to the atmosphere for me when I'm on stage buzzing and I can actually feel the vibrations of the hundreds of crazy people bouncing along with us. Trust me, you won't find a better place to witness and be part of our MOST PRESTIGIOUS SHOW TO DATE!
So heres the deal, its on Friday 3rd April, (not long off now) coaches leaving from the Traf in Nelson around 6.30pm, and from the Lounge in Burnley about 7pm. (If any groups of people would like to be picked up from another pub get in touch and this could be arranged)
The ticket costs you £7 and the coach £6. VMan Events have very kindly offered us and all our fans free entry into another late venue for an after party, should enough people wish to go! We are considering sending one coach back straight after the show at about 12.30am for those who can't hack it, and the other will go on to the after party, assuming theres enough interest. So, basically its set to be a belter and you'd be madder than Brian Mad of Madcastle to miss it!!!
Oh, nearly forgot......
Everyone who does come along on the coaches will receive a free cd which we have recorded last week in a little studio called the Purple Room exclusively for our loyal army of insane wierdos.
The cd is called 'The Purple Room Sessions' and features 4 tracks recorded acoustically with a very atmospheric sound and pure raw emotion. The track list is 'In Fashion', 'Cradle to the Grave', 'Give Me Something' (brand new never before heard track), and 'The Man Who Played God'.
This cd will only be available on this trip.
So what you waiting for? Get in touch with one of the band or Steve via mobile, or email us at anewbreedofmonkey@ntlworld.com and get booked on!
Coming soon....
Professional video shoot for In Fashion. Extras needed! More info soon.
We go back in MJM studios to complete our new album
Until then, thanks and keep the faith.
Joe
Well, well, well! It seems that the Manchester music scene can't get enough of a New Breed of Monkey at the moment! Following our very successful show at the legendary 'Ritz' we have now been invited to HEADLINE a night of music at Manchesters Academy 3 and Club Academy. There will be many bands* playing both venues (which are in the same building - one ticket gives access to both) and top of the bill is yours truly. This is a massive honour for us, and one can't help but think that this is just a test, that if this gig go's as well as the previous few it will open many doors for bigger, more high profile shows.... who knows!? As most of you will know our following over the last 12 months has been phenominal and is ever growing. It's time to jump on the band wagon people! Get out, get fucked up and see some great bands!!!!!! It's all going down on Saturday 7th Feb. Tickets are £6, and yes of course we are putting on transport! It'll cost you a measley stinkin tenner for your ticket and return coach, which will run from Nelson and Burnley. We are just too good to you aren't we! Inside the venue there are a few bars and on the ground floor there's a student union bar with drinks offers and a smoking area. What more do you need? So we hope to see you there, supporting us as always at the most prestigious show in a New Breed of Monkeys history! So far anyway! Thanks for your continued support.
Much love for 2009.
Joe
*A NEW BREED OF MONKEY + SEX RADIO + THE FOLD + THE ADDICTION + THE GREAT FURY + JAMES CAPPER + REFORM + THE TIDE Tickets from all online ticket sources £6 plus usual fees.
Well, well, well. What can I possibly say, other than its no big surprise!
Last Saturday was the northern final and we went through to the National Showcase with style! The coaches (2) were full yet again and quite a few made their own ways there. Big respect and thank you to everyone who made the effort to come and support us, and I don't think we disappointed if I do say so myself!
It was also Wattos birthday so it did get quite messy, but we all knew it would.
For those who couldn't make it, or if you pussied out at the last minute, we played six songs (The Man Who Tried to Play God / A Million Doors / Trapped Under The Smog Of The Industrial Blanket / Festival in Colne Lancashire / Mannequin / Cradle to the Grave) on the huge stage in front of a packed out Academy 2. The crowd went mad for it from the first chord and the band all enjoyed every second!
So now its the National Showcase......
13 bands, 4 music industry judges, a professional film crew and YOU! This is the big one people.
Its being held on Saturday 13th September ( not long from now!) at Birminghams Carling Academy (Main stage)!!!!!!
If you thought last Saturday night was big you aint seen nothing! Lets show them how we do it up north! We will again be running transport and have 150 tickets to shift, so get in quick. Many of those who attended Saturday night have already booked on, and a few are talking about an over night trip. Either way, you've gotta be there!
I can't help but think that this is our time. You laugh, but one day we'll be in charge...

NOW< SPECIALLY FOR YOU LOT - HERE'S OUR NEW VIDEO:
Haven't updated our blog for a while... excuse is, been too busy. Truth is... been too busy!
Gig last Saturday at Star Club in our home town saw a couple of hundred people fill a concert room at a local WMC which is on it's arse (as a lot of places seem to be since the smoking ban - no reflection on the club!) and the band did a 90 minute set. Some random guy said he was A&R from EMI. We'll see.
As requested beforehand, loads of folk brought their video cameras and recorded the performance on Mannequin, which we plan to release as a single. Currently we're collecting all the videos from youtube etc and editting it all down into one (very shaky) video. Hence being too busy. Will put it up here when its ready, let you all comment.
Also, very busy booking gigs and stuff.
Very interesting looking at our Frappr Map on mySpace as well... it seems we're very popular in Wichita for some reason! Strange how the internet works.
Love to you all for tomorrow (especially the ladies) xxx
Played an intimate venue called the Attic in Accrington last Saturday, supporting Tony Wright's band Laika Dog.
It turned out to be a tremendous gig! We did our set to a rapturous audience, and then Pretend Girlfriend followed (reformed after the singer took a sabitacal - paternity leave!) and finally Laika Dog took the stage. Not 'arf!
Here's a few things the media are saying about Tony's band:
Kerrang - "Sounds like Jimi Hendrix falling down the stairs"
Rocksound - "8 out of 10"
Bubblegum Slut Fanzine - "Epic passion coursing through festival finale choruses and biblically thunderous drums"
Subba-Culture - "Laika Dog deserve your support... and they'll probably be grateful for it too."
Rockmidgets.com - "Refreshingly shows scant regard for any current scenes or fashions."
Check them out at myspace.com/laikadogmusic
For our part, we heartily recommend catching Laika Dog in the act if you find them playing anywhere within 50 miles of you, it will be a never forget gig!
Well, we got the support slot (confirmed at the last minute) for Big Country at Burnley Mechanics - a Victorian hall
formerly the Mechanics Institute - and we understand their reluctance to have a support band, and their change of heart halfway through their tour when voice strain could become an issue.
We thought our half hour set went well, was appreciated by the half full auditorium (of course it filled up for Big Country, since it was their gig) and judging by sales of our CD on the merchandise stall, we made a positive impact on a number of people.
It was great to have a dressing room with our name on the door, lights round the mirror, and the drinks/food rider supplied by the venue. The techs both back line and front of house were very helpful. Everything, in short, was excellent in our view.
Our set included Laughter, Mannekin, Rumours, Greater Than Thee, Trapped Under The Smog of the Industrial Blanket, A Festival In Colne Lancashire, and finally Cradle To The Grave.
Big Country didn't acknowledge us, and why should they. We aren't famous. They are.
We wish them all the best for their tour and hope that they continue to play their great music for the fans.
We are honoured to have been invited (belatedly nonetheless) to support the legendary BIG COUNTRY on Saturday 22nd December at Burnley Mechanics. Big Country are touring for the first time in years, and despite the fact that they are now a three piece (sadly Stuart died in 2001) the band continue to be an inspiration.
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can do so on line. Just follow this link.
December, and the band is resting (which means rehearsing and writing) with no gigs until the end of the month, which is why none of our regular ramblings about the gigs we've played.
There has been a couple of very strange developments though, which have affected us greatly, so at risk of boring our readers we would just like to mention them.
The NME/Morrissey argument has certainly made us question what we should do regarding the NME. As everyone who knows a New Breed of Monkey will be aware, we are great fans of Morrissey and have been greatly influenced by both the man himself and, naturally, The Smiths. Having also regarded the NME as a 'necessary' vehicle for breaking bands, we now have a dilemma. Do we pull out of all NME websitesand the NME blog in support of M? We know what we WANT to do, but would very much like to hear what YOU think we should do.
Please comment on this question and lets hear what you think.
Q. Should we delete our Breaking Bands status on NME website, and Vox NME Group an MySpace friends?
The second thing was that Big Country have decided to have no support acts on their current tour. Instead, they have announced that they will conduct a Questions & Answer session at each gig. Since we were asked to support them on 22nd December, this kind of disappoints us greatly and makes us ask how can anyone hold a Q&A session for 400/500 people in a standing only venue? Lets just hope (for their sake) that it works! Nevertheless, we're keeping that date free - just in case they have a change of heart!
